The National Council of Private Teachers has warned that they may boycott the 2024 general elections if the government does not address the challenges facing the education sector.
The Council has expressed concern over numerous issues impacting private teachers, including high taxes on private schools and the government’s failure to include private schools in STEM education initiatives.
In an interview, James Kwame Ackon, the Executive Director of the National Council of Private Teachers, outlined the reasons for the potential boycott if the government does not address their concerns.
He said there are many taxes in private schools to the extent that private school owners cannot even pay their teachers or workers well. He continued saying many graduates who completed university are unemployed, and Looking at the amount of money they pay from level 100 to level 400 and also be compelled to sit for licensure examination, where they pay GHS550 together with indexes, that alone is a reason not to vote them into power.
