His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Meshal Bin Hamdan Alrogi has inaugurated a food Basket Project of about 150.5 tonnes of food items donated by the Government of Saudi Arabia to Republic Ghana. The food Basket project was a direct donation by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) to be distributed in collaboration with a local charity organization, ALEAWN Al-Yaqin Humanitarian center. The food basket project, which is a replica of the generosity of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz AL Saud (may Allah preserve) consist of a package of 25 kg of rice, a 25 kg of processed maize, a 4kg of beans, 2 liters of cooking oil and other items to be given to each beneficiary numbered over 2000 needy families in Ghana to support them fast the month of Ramadan.
Ambassador Alrogi, during his inaugural speech, at the event held at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Conference Hall, articulated the leading humanitarian role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in serving the international community around the world, which according to the Saudi Ambassador, has in recent times translated into the establishment of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre in 2015 under the high patronage and guidance of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz (may Allah preserve him). He recounted various donations of the King Salman Center to Ghana such as the yearly donations of the date fruit, a donation of 17 container-load of medical supplies in 2018 to help the boost health delivery in the country. In the field of education, the Ambassador reiterated his country’s unflinching support to Ghana revealing that the scholarship quota for Ghana has been increased to 159 scholarships annually for eligible applicants from all walks of life to study programs off their choice in Saudi Public Universities.
Other dignitaries present in the event were Sheikh Umar Ibrahim, the national chief Imam of the Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jamaah, Hon. Muntaka, the minority chief whip in Parliament, Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam, the Director of Middleast Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Bin Abdallah, the Coordinator of Zongo Development Fund, a three- member delegation from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) led by Mr. Abdurrahman Al-Mutairi, representatives of ALEAWN YAQIN center led by the chairman Prof. Nail Muhammad Kamil and staffs of the Saudi Arabia Embassy. Mrs. Regina Appiah in her speech conveyed the regards and solidarity of the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey as well as expressed the Government’s appreciation to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the donations. Hon. Muntaka on his part called upon the Muslim community in Ghana towards unity and engineering their available resources towards educating the younger generation, a matter, which he believes would help in the fight against poverty in the community. Other dignitaries present in the event expressed their profound gratitude to the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the continuous kind gesture towards the government and people of Ghana and appealed more support particularly in the area of educational infrastructure.
