Ghana’s Parliament is set to reconvene for an emergency session on Tuesday, September 3, following a petition from the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin. The decision to recall MPs from their recess comes after Speaker Alban Bagbin adjourned the previous session indefinitely on July 30.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin argued that urgent government business required Parliament’s attention, including a financing agreement with the International Development Association and tax exemptions for beneficiaries of the One District, One Factory programme.
The Majority Leader stressed the need to fulfill the government’s constitutional obligations and serve the interests of the Ghanaian people. A public notice issued by the Office of the Speaker said the venue for the session will be disclosed later.
