Asante Kotoko secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nsoatreman FC in an outstanding match at the Len Clay Sports Stadium, which sends them to second place in the Ghana Premier League standings. After a quiet first half with half chances, the game came to life in the second. The Porcupines broke the deadlock just two minutes after the restart in a fortuitous fashion.
Defender Issahaka Mohammed, who attempted to clear his lines, inadvertently headed Dauda Saaka’s cross into his own net. Midfielder Fernando Bassey had a chance to extend the lead after a quick one-two with Emmanuel Antwi, but the Nigerian’s effort hit the side netting.
Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Daniel Moo was shown a second yellow card, leading to his dismissal in the 79th minute. The outstanding match, which was initially set for Matchday two, had to be rescheduled following Nsoatreman’s involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup where they got eliminated by CS Constantine.
Nsoatreman will face Legon Cities in their next fixture, hoping to return to winning ways. Meanwhile, It’s a first victory at home for Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side who will look to maintain their unbeaten start when they welcome Accra Lions on Saturday.
