The Western Region has reported 15 deaths from a cholera outbreak, with the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality as the epicentres. Dr. Gifty Amugi, Deputy Regional Director of Public Health, confirmed over 1,000 cases of cholera symptoms, including diarrhoea and vomiting, with 90 confirmed cases. Despite safety measures, Dr. Amugi expressed concern over rising cases due to public neglect of precautions. She urged residents to report suspected cases immediately and emphasized that treatment is free. A vaccination exercise has begun, and the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) has imposed a ban on vegetable sales by food vendors to curb the spread. The Health Directorate has also ramped up its awareness and prevention efforts.
