The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has demanded a concrete update on the investigation in the murder case of Ahmed Suale, an Investigative Journalist, by the end of March 2025. He said it was very unfortunate and disappointing that six years after the murder of Ahmed Suale, no arrest had been made.
He threatened to reveal the suspect’s name if the Police did not disclose investigation details. Mr. Dwumour also stated that the GJA would take Latif Iddrisu’s case to the ECOWAS Court if the Police failed to act by March 2025.
Latif was brutally assaulted by unidentified police officers at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department while covering a demonstration by some supporters of the National Democratic Congress. The assault damaged his skull and since then, he has been battling for life. However, six years after the incident, the GJA President said police investigations had been rather tardy.
He urged the IGP, Attorney-General, and President to take a keen interest in the case. GJA General Secretary Kofi Yeboah stated the Association was dissatisfied with the Police’s response and would approach the ECOWAS court if necessary, following legal advice, if the matter isn’t handled properly by the authorities.
Mr Omar Faruk Osman, the President of the Federation of African Journalists, said the Federation was watching closely the unjust attacks on journalists especially regarding the murder of Ahmed Suale and believed in the need for justice to prevail.
