A climate of fear and tension has engulfed a community in Ghana following reports that a man identified as Charles Osei Bonsu, a member of the LGBTQ community, has been disowned by his father and is allegedly being targeted by local youths who have vowed to “deal with him drastically.”
According to close sources, Charles, who openly identifies as bisexual, has endured years of persecution, humiliation, and violence from both his family and society due to his sexual orientation. His situation reportedly worsened after his father banished him from the family home, describing his identity as an “abomination” and disowning him entirely.
Residents say the hostility did not end with family rejection. Groups of local youths are allegedly searching for Charles, accusing him of “influencing young men” and threatening severe punishment if he is found.
“They say he must be dealt with so that others will not follow his path,” a resident, who requested anonymity, disclosed.
As tensions escalated, attention reportedly shifted to Charles’s alleged male partner. Amid mounting pressure and threats, the partner released a statement distancing himself from the situation. He denied knowledge of the accusations and urged the youths to stop linking his name to Charles’s whereabouts.
However, the statement reportedly did little to de-escalate the situation.
In a chilling response, the youths allegedly claimed that if they capture the partner, he would eventually lead them to Charles, whom they insist must be punished “once and for all.”
“We believe if we get him, we will know where Charles is,” one youth was quoted as saying.
“He must be stopped before he influences other young guys into that life.”
Sources say the threats have forced Charles into hiding, leaving him in constant fear for his life. Despite the danger, it is believed that he has vowed never to surrender, fearing that doing so would result in severe harm or death.
Human rights advocates warn that this case highlights the grave dangers faced by LGBTQ individuals in hostile environments, where family rejection, mob justice, and societal stigma often replace the rule of law.
As of now, Charles’s whereabouts remain unknown. Activists and concerned citizens are calling on authorities to intervene urgently before the situation escalates into irreversible violence.
