Bernard Mornah has emerged victorious in the flagbearer contest for the People’s National Convention (PNC), marking a significant milestone for the party. His win was officially announced by Electoral Commission officials at the UDS Guest House in Accra on September 7, 2024. The party’s congress, which was convened to elect national executives ahead of the upcoming December general elections, saw Mornah secure a commanding 1,138 votes.

His opponent, David Apasera, garnered 216 votes in the contest. In his victory speech, Mornah extended an olive branch to Apasera, urging him to work together to strengthen the party’s position in the general elections. He stressed the need for unity to help the PNC gain political power.

In developing stories, defeated flagbearer hopeful of the People’s National Convention (PNC), David Apasera has rejected the results from the 2024 PNC National Congress, held to elect its national executives ahead of the December 7 general elections. At a press conference in Accra on Sunday, David Apasera accused the Electoral Commission of conducting a fraudulent and biased election, disregarding an earlier injunction from the Accra High Court.

According to Mr Apasara, Bernard Mornah and the Electoral Commission conspired to undermine his candidacy and hinted at legal action to challenge the election results. Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Samson Asaki Awingobit, has been elected the National Chairman of the PNC. He defeated Hajia Hajara in the party’s national delegates congress held across all 16 regions.
